What exactly is an official stamp? Do I have to have one?

My boyfriend has invited me to stay at the school he is studying abroad at and has gotten the approval that I can stay. They do not stamp anything. What should I do?

Kelli, I don't think you need an official stamp on your invitation letter. According to my knowledge, your BF's signature is ok. But you may contact Chinese consulate in your area to confirm this. If they do ask for the official stamp from your BF's school, you may provide round-trip air tickets and hotel booking instead of the invitation letter to apply for the L type.
