renew resident permit

I have just renewed my china alien work permit, but my HR manager has told me I must provide my old passport with the Z visa inside to apply for a new resident permit. If not I might have to start the application again in London. I have a copy of it. Can I show the PSB the copy when I renew my resident permit

When renewing your resident permit, both the copy and original Work Z are needed. Only copy is not enough.

ok thanks for that. It looks like I will have to apply for another Z type because the original one is in my old passport, and it is lost in China. Do you know if I can still go to hongkong to apply the new Z or will I have to go back to the uk?

If your fomer one is lost, you are suggested to go to the local Exit-Entry Adminstration to consult the detail information about your issue. If it cannot be solved, you can go to HK for re-applying a new one. I heard some people got there Work Z in HK, so you can have a try.

one more question!!
I guess I will have to do my medical exam again if I need to re-apply my Work Z. The problem is my vision in my left eye is not so good now after a recent operation. I have excellent vision in my right eye, but could they fail my medical because of poor vision in my left eye?

If you need to re-apply Work Z, you need to do your medical exam again.
The medical exam is only used for applying work permit, so if the company who employs you has no specific requirements for the sights, it will not affect your Work Z application. Please do not worry.
