Question

We planned to attend friend's wedding in Hong Kong in mid October. Host will also arrange group tour to Yunnan but no detailed plan provided as yet; therefore, no air nor hotel reservations booked. Are we required to provide air/hotel booking with application...and, what is invitation letter? Thank you.

John, you should provide an invitation letter from any Chinese individual, your friends or other organizations in mainland China if you can't provide the round-trip air tickets and hotel bookings. Or you may consider taking an arranged tour arranged by travel agencies. The agencies will send you an invitation letter so that you can apply for the L types.
