do i have to return home to get a chinese q visa?

Question

I am a Canadian. Married to a Chinese national and have already been living in China now for eight years. Since they changed the laws, I now need a Q type to live with my wife in China.It is VERY inconvenient to have to return to Canada and then come back to China. Can I just go to a nearby country to get it? Do I have to leave at all?Thanks

Hi, since you have been living in China for 8 years, you have got a resident permit right?If so, you do not need to apply a Q type, but just need to renew your current resident permit.
