You can take a bus from GL Qintan Bus Station to Longsheng County first. After arrival in Longsheng Bus Station, you can take a bus right to the terrace.

Thank you for the reply. At this time of the year where is a reasonable and good place to stay in Longsheng. Will it be easy to find. I don't speak Chinese. I read something about "porter" who will carry your bags for a fee. Also are there different ways to get to the top of the mountain. Are there motorcycles or horse or is it only by walking? Thank you again for your help.

You have no other choice but to walk onto the mountain to see the terrace as I know and the car or motorcycle can just take you to Ping'an or Dazhai parking lot.

Hi. There are minibuses that run from GL train station to Pingan and Dazhai (2 of the villages in the Longji rice terrace area.)
Alternatively you can take a bus to Heping. Tell the conductor that you want to go to 'Longji Ti Tian' and, once you've gone past Heping the conductor will flag down the bus travelling in the opposite direction and tell you to change buses.
There are many places to stay in the rice terrace area. Most are traditional style wooden houses. China YHA has a good hostel (Jingkeng) - I can't remember the name in the upper part of Dazhai village. Its very cheap. Rooms are very cheap but food is a bit more expensive than in GL.

Theres a cable car from the Dazhai parking lot to one of the hilltops but if you take this its not so easy to hike to the other areas. The best way to experience the terraces is to hike around them. From the lower part of Dazhai village its about 30mins-1 hour to the upper part. The hikes not easy but theres no rush and lots of places to rest/ some small stalls selling water etc along the way. If you stay in the upper part of Dazhai village there are many viewing terraces for watching the sunrise. You can also hike to 2 other nearby viewpoints.
The old ladies who live in the villages will offer to carry your bag up the hill for you (50-100y depending on how heavy it is/how much you bargain) but if you are planning on returning to GL after your trip maybe you should leave any heavy luggage there and just take a backpack with a couple of days worth of clothes to the rice terraces.
