Train ticket booked through TCG: need to upload a passport copy to buy tickets?

I just purchased G tickets through TravelChinaGuide website and I see an option to "Upload passport copy". Is this a requirement? If so, do you need a copy of just my passport photo (my face), or a picture of my entire passport information page? (includes passport #, expiration date, name, photo, etcetera)

Dear KM,
Thank you for enquiry!
We need a picture of your entire passport information page, including your passport number, name, photo, etc., which are important information in booking the ticket for you.

OK, the Travel China guide agent may ask for it, but really a passport copy is not needed to buy a train ticket in China (for foreigners or Chinese). All you need is your passport number. And since this week also the name of the traveller. Equipped with this, u should have no problems buying it with any Train ticket agent or at any train station.

However… due to the retardedness of many Chinese state employees they will insist on a copy or seeing your passport, so as to proof that the the details are correct and being able to avoid any future misunderstandings. Sad but true.
