Travel to Leshan

Hi, I wish to plana trip to the Giant Buddha flying from Australia to Guangzhou then by rail to Leshan. What would be the best route for this? Then I will travel to Nanning again by train and back to Guangzhou and possibly visit Hong Kong before returning to Australia. I would like to travel by public transport while in China only flying to and froom Australia.

As for your demand, I have to remind you that it usually takes a long time to travel by rail and bus in China due to the large size.

Well then, upon getting to Guangzhou, you can take a train to Chengdu. Then go to local Xinnanmen Bus Station to take a bus to Leshan Xiaoba Bus Station. After that, you can easily transfer to bus no. 13 to the Buddha.

After visiting, you need take a bus at Xiaoba Bus Station back to Chengdu first. Then take the only train at Chengdu East to Nanning - K139. Afterwards, there are direct trains between Nanning and Guangzhou.

As for the train schedule and fare, you can search on the train page of this website. And I highly recommend you book the train tickets in advance.

Hi Garry,
Looking at train times for the trip to Chengdu there is no fast trains as the quickest is just over 1 day correct? Therefore I would be better to break up the journey and spend a day at each town on the way. If i were to catch early trains around 6am and wish to arrive in a destination around 1pm what town do you recommend would fit this ?
Thanks for all your help.

You can take a high speed train around 06:35 at Guangzhou South to Chenzhou in an hour and twenty minutes. After having a short break there, you can take a train to Huaihua for another break or head for Chongqing. Then there are high speed trains between Chongqing to Chengdu.
Just for your reference!
