Can I apply for the Z Visa at an overseas Chinese embassy?

I am an Australian travelling at the moment and was hoping to go to China straight from Asia by applying at an embassy in a country other than Australia.

I am afraid that you may not apply for the Z type successfully in a third country which you travel in. Anyway, you can confirm this with Chinese embassy in that country in advance. If not possible, you should get back to Australia to apply.
