Grace period for a residence permit?

Hello,

My current resident permit is valid until January 2015. My concern is that I am in the process of seeking a new contract with a new employer (still negotiating so a contract has not yet been signed). Can my current employer (I am currently in their exit process - contract was fulfilled with no issues) cancel my residence permit forcing me out of the country?

Is there a grace period for a situation like this? Do most employers leave the permit be as long as everything is on good terms?

Thanks!

Usually, the current employer cannot cancel your residence permit.
You are still suggested to keep a good relationship with your current employer, because you need them to provide you a release letter to renew your Alien Employment Permit if you want to take a new job.

The previous employer is required BY LAW to provide you with a release letter.

If you and your employer have burned bridges, then they probably will withold the release letter- IN THIS CASE, you can go to the local GOVERNMENT LABOUR BUREAU office with a translator and they will contact your previous employer AND DEMAND the release letter on your behalf.

Despite what employers tell you to your face in the school, they will not mess with the Government and WILL COMPLY or they'll find themselves being publically scrutinised by the Government.

They don't want this. They tend to wish to avoid the glare of the Government's Eye.
