L Visa but then I got an invitation for X type

I have applied and successfully got a L type (I wrote in the application preferred 6 months but I got 1 year L type). I intended to get it to visit some Chinese friends however, while waiting I got a reply back and an invitation for a X type and I should be applying within those two months. What should I do as I cannot wait for the L type to expire? Any suggestions? Thanks

You can apply for the X one with your invitation letter and other documets. Once you get it, your L one will be invalid automatically.
The L one cannot be used if you plan to study in China.
