About:China Visa Entries / Validity / Duration of Stay

Date of First Entry Do I need to arrive in China specifically on that date, or is it at all flexible?

I will be teaching at a university in China. I have an Invitation Letter of Duly Authorized Unit - paperwork needed for Z visa. Under "Date of First Entry" it has August 28, 2014. If I can arrive on August 29, I will save nearly $200 in air fare.

Yes, you can enter any time once you have a valid Chinese work Z. So, you just check the validity of the work Z for entry. The date mentioned in the letter is just a reference for issuing Z only.
