About:China Train

Visiting Gaunzaou, Xiamen, Nanjing from Los Angeles.

In the past I have always taken flights to these cities. This time (21 August to 1 September) I want to see if how local folks travel. So I want to travel by rail if possible. So, may I ask which trains should I consider to go from (a) Gaunzaou to Xiamen; (b) Xiamen to Nanjing; and (c) Nanjing to Gaunzaou and how long will each segment be?

Also, can I buy tickets using AMEX before leaving Los Angeles?

Guangzhou - Xiamen: overnight sleeper, K229 or K297, 13 hours.
Xiamen - Nanjing: D3136 or D2282, 11 hours.
Nanjing - Guangzhou: overnight sleeper, K527 or K221, 27 hours.

yes, you can, if you book with online ticketing agents.

Thanks Anna. Will taking HSR Bullet train from Shenzhen be a better option? From Nanjing to Gaunzaou via plane will be quicker unless there is HSR to either Shenzhen or Gaunzaou.

yes, it would be better to travel from nanjing to Shenzhen. D2281 and D2289 travels from Nanjing to Shenzhen and it takes about 14 hours.
