About:China Train

Can I receive my actual tickets in advance?

Some websites state that tickets can be booked in advance but that passengers must arrive at the station 2 - 3 hours before departure to show their passports and get the tickets.
Other websites say that they can accept a scan of a passport and issue actual tickets which can be sent to a Hotel in in China. Therefore, it is then only necessary to arrive at the station 45 minutes before departure time.
Which is correct?
Can the tickets be posted to a business I am visiting in China instead of a Hotel?

Yes. You can get them in advance (within the 20 day sale period). If you want to go to a station 3 or 4 days in advance of your journey, there will be no problem.

both are correct.
after booking with online agent, you have two choices to get your ticket: pick up by yourself at railway station by showing your passport or have your ticket delivered to your hotel or a personal address in China.

to pick up by yourself, you are advised to get the station 2 - 3 hours before departure as there are alwasy long lines in station. if your agent deliver the ticket to you, you just need to get the station and check in directly. Usually, passengers are allowed to get onboard 30 minutes before departure.

Hi Cindy, this is very helpful, but does this apply to foreigners (like me.) Can the booking agent send the actual train tickets to my hotel in advance, so that I can arrive at the railway station just 45 minutes before departure.
I thought that non-Chinese passengers had to show their passports to collect the tickets. It would be really good if I can get the tickets at the hotel to avoid long queues at the railway station.
