About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Is this allowed?

I am flying Bangkok-Hong Kong-Taipei (overnight connection)-Shanghai. Staying in Shanghai for 2 days and then flying Shanghai-Taipei-Hong Kong (overnight connection)-Bangkok.

Can I take advantage of the 72 hour visa-free transit or will my ticket be considered round trip, even though I will officially enter Taiwan on the outbound, and Hong Kong on the return to Thailand?

Yes, your ticket will be considered as a round trip. So you should apply for a visa in advance for this visit.
