M Visa Extension-I am based in Chengdu and wondering if it is possible to get an extension in Chengdu

I am currently on M - double entry, each stay is maximum 180 days. or do I need to leave the mainland China.

Have you used up the two entries? if not, you can just exit to HK/Macao then reenter again to activate next 180 days.

Then you can visit local Exit-Entry Admin of PSB one week before it expires for extension. An invitation letter from the invitor is required, as well as their legal registration certificate.
