Do I need to fly to Hongkong then to nearest airport to XT, or to Beijing then maybe take a bus or train to my destination?

You can fly to XT directly from where you are to Beijing. Then take the airport shuttle bus line 7 to Beijing West Railway Station. There you can take a bullet train for your destination city easilyl.
