About:How to Travel to China without a Visa

L-1 or Transit Visa?

I'm currently working in the U.S. (Miami, Florida), I have a French passport and would like to visit Beijing for 6 days.
I read that I need to go to the embassy in Houston to get an interview but this costs more than $1,000 round trip and I cannot afford that...
Is it possible to use the 72 hours transition to visit Beijing?

72 hour free transit only allowes 3 days, so you have to apply for a Chinese L in advance in the USA. You can post your application to a travel agency if you want to save a trip by yourself to the consulate.

Thank you for your answer, the consulate told me I need to go there in person to have my fingerprints scanned but I think it's too much trouble.
Can I use the 72-hours transit to visit Beijing for 3 days then? Because according to what I read the 72-hours can only be claimed if showing a flying ticket to a third country.
How are the 72-hours counted?

Yes, you can avail 72 hour free transit if you fly via Beijing to a third country, for example, to Japan or South Korea. Generally, 72 hour starts from 00:00 of the following day, but different airline may have different policy regarding this, so better buy a ticket with stopover within 72 hours.

Ok but what if I just want to do: USA -> Beijing, visit Beijing, then Beijing -> USA? Would the 72-hours work then?
