How to cancel a Foreign Residents Permit?

My employer offered me a new teaching contract. I accepted their offer. Since then they have applied for a new Foreign Residents Permit (FRP) to enable me to continue working next year - that is due to arrive tomorrow. The school has subsequently deducted (what I consider) an unauthorised amount from my travelling allowance, effectively short changing me. I have protested, but they have said it was a 'misunderstanding', even though the amount was written in ink on paper. I no longer wish to take a new contract with the school. I will be leaving China while on summer holiday, but I wish to apply for a new job in China while I am abroad. How do I get my Foreign Resident's Permit cancelled? I am pretty sure the school will object to me transferring to another employer as in the past teachers that have left before their contract expired were threatened to be blacklisted from entering China again, so a transfer of my FRP to another employer seems highly unlikely.

Hi, the problem is not the foreign residence permit, but you work permit/employment certificate/Foreign Expert Certificate. If you want to quit the job, the school your employer needs to cancel it, then the residence permit expires naturally. And if you want to change job, a release letter from former employer is required, so that is why many foreigners got threatened.

Thanks for the information - that helps clear things up. So if the school cancels my foreign expert certificate and work permit, I have to leave China in a relatively short time. If I do this can I apply for a new Z from outside the country, or can my school block any application for a new Z at another school?

Don't worry, you can apply for new work Z type outside China if you follow this step to cancel your current document legally.
