how does shanghai, china have a large population?

in my exam i have to explain how does a certain city have such a big population and I have egearly chose SH, can I get some help!?

There are two reasons. 1. The number of native people is large. 2. As a morden city, many people such as students, migrants workers, businessmen will go to this city. Most of them will choose to live in the city for some time. These people lead to a large number of local residence.
