Hard Sleeper in long distance

There are some trains where it goes for about 15-20 hours. Other (like Chengdu -> Dunhuang) will be over 30 hours. Is there a point where you think a hard sleeper becomes to unbearable and you need to get the soft? Or even when the hard sleeper becomes a necessity?

actually, a hard sleeper room just has two more bunks than a soft sleeper room, and the bed is not as wide as that in soft sleeper. i don't see there is big difference in 20 hour and 30 hour journeys. If one can not bear the 30 hour trip, i think it is because of the long time. you have more activities to kill time in hard sleeper, such as talking to people, walk around in the carriage, or sit by the aisle to enjoy the scenery outsite.
