No direct bus from Dongzhimen bus station to Jinshanling

On Saturday June 7th 2014, I was told that the direct bus to Jinshanling from the Dongzhimen bus station has stopped operating. Got the information from the main information desk at Dongzhimen, seemed legit. There is still the option to take a local bus halfway and then a mini bus that goes at 8h30, 12h30 & 16h00. But the local bus at 8h00 will get there too late to catch the 8h30 minibus, so it doesn't seem practical. I unfortunately ended up taking a direct bus to Mutyanyu from there at 8h30.

Yes, you should go to Wangjingxi Subway Station and take regular buses for Jinshanling. It departs at 08:00 and returns at 15:00. If there is less than 20 passengers, they will be arranged to take Beijing-Luanping public bus that stops at Jinshanling Highway Rest Area. From there, they can take free shuttle bus to Jinshanling.

I also went to Jinshanling on June 7th, Jeff is right there is no longer the bus from Dongzhimen. I took the bus from Wangjingxi (Line 13), the bus station is opposite exit B. Got the bus that goes to Luan Ping which stops at the Jinshanling rest stop (19yuan with the beijing transport card, 32 without). However there was no free shuttle from there, according to some locals since so few people go to Jinshanling, you need to call up beforehand to say you're coming for them to arrange pickup with the shuttle. We ended up taking a taxi to Jinshanling west gate (xi men) and walked the wall to east gate (dong men) it was a nice 3 hour hike. East gate is really near the rest stop.

Genna, thanks for providing latest update. According to the official website of Jinshanling GW, the shuttle bus from the service area departs at 10:00, 11:00, 13:00 and 15:00. Did you go there too early and miss the shuttle bus?
