Do I still need a proof of a hotel reservation, while knowing that I will stay at my brother's place?

I want to go visit my brother is china. He has an apartment and it's where I'm going to stay.

Larry, you won't need round-trip air tickets and hotel reservation if your brother sends you the invitation letter.
