About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Can I pick up the free 72 hour transit visa at the airport in Shanghai?

I am booking a ticket from Rome to Bangkok via Shanghai and would like to stop over in Shanghai for 3 nights, staying with friends who live there. Do I need to do anything in advance or can I get the free transit at PVG.
Also since I won't be staying at a hotel, do I need to register after leaving the airport.

Yes, you can avail free transit in Shanghai airport if the stopover is within 72 hours. If you will stay with your friends there, you have to register at the local Police station with your friend's address.
