changing S2 to S1 visa in china

My husband is in china on study X but I applied for an S1 but I was issued an S2. Can I reapply for an S1 here in China. And I was told at the embassy that I can extend the S2 when I get to china. Is that possible? if no what can I do?

Hi, you can not apply for S1 type in China if you already get a S2. Anyway, S2 type can be extended before it expires at local PSB. Your husband's residence permit and your marriage certificate are required.

Is there a fixed limit (e.g. by a month or 2 months maybe) to how much they can extend the S2 or is it entirely up to PSB.

Application for extension should be submitted to PSB at least 7 days before it expires. Yes, the duration of stay is up to the officers.
