Who arranged marriages in Ancient China? And why?

The parents of boys and girls arranged marriage for them. In ancient times, it was regarded to be a shame to fall in love and talk abou their marriage on their own by girls and boys, so parents usually arranged that for them. And for the daughters and sons in imperial families, their parents usually aranged their marriage for the sake of political or economic interest.
