hi, what are the available options to travel from shanghai to dunhuang?

Hi, what are the available options to travel from Shanghai to Dunhuang? I was told I can take the plane from Shanghai to Lanzhou and take another plane or train ride. Is it advisable to do this? What is there to see in Lanzhou? Also, can I take a direct flight to Shanghai when going home?Thanks! :)

There is only one flight between these two cities but it has a stopover. Besides, you may take train from Shanghai to Liuyuan first, and then take a bus for 2 hours to DH. Or, you can take flight to Lanzhou and then go to DH by train or flight. There are some famous attractions in Lanzhou, such as Waterwheel Garden, Gansu Provincial Museum and so on.
