About:Chinese Embassy in South Korea

U.S. citizen trying to get a visa to China in Korea

I am a Korean American, visiting Seoul with a U.S. passport. I stopped by the Chinese Application Service Center this morning and was told that a new policy prohibits their issuing a visa to Americans in Korea. They do make exceptions for Korean Americans but need documentation that I was in fact born in Korea. I have no such documentation.

Does anybody know anything about this new policy? Does anybody have any suggestions for resolving this problem? I already have a plane ticket to Beijing, along with paid reservations for a hotel.

Do you mean the office will not accept applications from US passport holder? unless they are Korean American born in South Korea? I have never heard of this before. How about those who hold ARC valid for more than 6 months?

They would not accept my application unless I could provide a document that proved I was born in Korea. I don't know what an ARC is, so can't answer your question.
