possible to get new multi entry visa while in china?

I have a 2 yr multiple entry L (tourist) that will expire in Jun, but I want to stay in china for another 3-4 mths to visit relatives. I am currently in china, is it possible to get a new L (apply for another 2 yr multiple entry tourist L while I am in China? Or i have to go back to united states for the application?
