PingYao to Yellow River Hukou

Planning to see PY and Hukou end of Aug, is this a good time to do so? How far is PY to Hukou? What is the best way to go to Hukou from PingYao? Can one hire a taxi to leave early in the morning and back to PY in the afternoon? If so what is the best way to book a taxi in advance? What is the best way to go to PY from Guangzhou? Thank you very much.

Yes, it is a great time to visit. The water is a lot in August, so it is a grand sight. The temperature in PY is not so high and a good place to enjoy the summer time.
There is around 280 to 300km. From PY, there is no direct bus to Hukou, so you need to transfer in Linfen. From PY to Linfen, there are trains. From Linfen, you can go to the local bus station to take the bus for Jixian County, Hukou.

It is hard to hire a local taxi, but you can hire a local car operated privately. So that you can go back to PY in the late afternoon at around 15:00. The fare for hiring a local car is around 400 to 500RMB.

The best method from Guangzhou to PY is to fly to Taiyuan first and go to the local Jiannan Bus Station to take a bus for PY.
