Chinese Document Notary & Dual Citizenship

Hi,

I am signing a Chinese-Mandarin document for my mother who is Chinese citizen and resides in China-Mainland. The document states that I'm giving up my inheritance (so my mother can sell her property that is in both her and my deceased father's name). The document needs to be notarized. What is the process to get it done?

I have U.S. citizenship (via naturalization 20 years ago). My Chinese passport expired and was never renewed. I don't know if I did anything to "give up" my Chinese citizenship. Can I renew my Chinese passport or I need to apply for dual citizenship in order for me to have a valid Chinese passport?

Thank You

DeeDee

Hi, you can not apply for Chinese citizenship any more if you are a naturalized US citizen. For the notarization, you need to do it through Chinese consulate either in person or by someone else entruested. But you have to send the document to a local notary public for notarization first, then to a County Clerk for authentication (often required in the States of New York State and Ohio and may be required in a couple of other states. Please consult the local notary public); and also send the notarized/authenticated document to the office of the Secretary of State or the Treasurer (of New Jersey) for authentication.
