Changing from X2 to Tourist L visa

Hello, I am currently studying in China with X2, as soon as school is over I will be flying to Tokyo Japan. However, I will only stay in Japan for 4 days. Is it possible to obtain an additional entry to my X2 or do I really need to change it to a tourist L? I will only stay in China for 10 more days before going back to USA. I am an american citizen.

Hi, you can visit the local PSB for a tourist L with one more entry. Ask one of your Chinese friend/classmate to accompany you to the PSB if necessary.

Can you tell me if there was any success in this? I'm also in the same predicament and I don't want to pay the express fee for the short while I'm out of China if I need to go to the embassy.

John, if you have to go to Japan, then you need to apply for the L type. If you don't go there, you can extend your stay duration by converting the X2 type into an L type.

Hi Richard, towards the end of my studies, can I change my X2 type into a L type with another entry? That is, can I change to L type, then leave and reenter China? Will the Shanghai PSB allow this?

John, you can change your X type into an L type within mainland China, but this L type has no entry on it. If you want to reenter, you have to apply for another entry from outside China.
