do i fall into the f category visa?

I have received an invitation to the international young scholars workshop in July . Its from Jilin university in Changchun.  I am a student so I dont have any tax certificate. Also do I still need a recommendation from the local chamber of commerce ?

Yes, you need to apply for F type for this visit. But you should provide round-trip ticket and hotel bookings. The bank statement and recommendation may be required if the consular officers ask for them. So, better contact the embassy directly for more details.
