Is it impolite to refuse food or drink?

I have many allergies and I do not drink alcohol, is it impolite to refuse food or beverages that are offered to you?

Kate, you needn't worry about it. If you explain to them that you are allergic to some food or drinks, you won't be forced to eat or drink. They understand this.
