72-hour Visa-free Transit

I will be travelling from Bali to Dublin with a 10 hour stop over in Shanghai. My plan is to go into the city for the day. I hold an Irish passport. Do I need to notify the airline in advance that I wish to visit the city or what do I need to do to satisfy the 72 hour free transit?

Hi, it is unnecessary. You just need to apply for a free stay permit after arrival at Shanghai airport showing your passport and onward flight ticket.
