About:Traveling Cost in China

How much cash do you recommend for souvenirs?

My daughter is traveling to China on a class trip. How much Chinese currency should she bring for souvenirs and a few meals? All of her traveling expenses are pre paid except for a few meals. She will want to buy trinkets, inexpensive jewelry and possibly a dress. Also what are the best denominations to bring?

Sue, foreigners are allowed to bring 5000 USD or 20000 RMB in cash when they enter PRC. If she just buys souvenirs or pay for meals, I think 5000 RMB should be ok. However, I think it would be better for her to bring a debit card for unexpected situations.
