I am going to shanghai to houjie,dongguan City by bus/train

As I know, there is direct transportation method between SH and Houjie, so you need to transfer.

I think you can take a train from Shanghai to Guangzhou Railway Station. Then you can walk to the Guangdong Provincial Bus Station, where you can find frequent buses for Houjie, DG.
