Line 3 from Guangzhou East to Airport South

I think I am over-confusing reading the time tables, but I am evaluating two options to get from Hong Kong to Ho Chi Minh, and one of them is to travel from Hong Kong to Guangzhou to catch a 1230pm flight out of Baiyun. The MTR Intercity Train arrives at GZ East from Hong Kong at 9:24am per the schedule. I would then plan to make my way to the Line 3 station and take this to Airport South. I will be carrying a pretty good size piece of luggage (four wheel rolling bag). First, how long can I expect the Line 3 ride to be - will I have enough time to make my flight? Second, will navigating this route with my luggage be too cumbersome? Thanks for your help!

1. Time will be sufficient to catch your flight. Don't worry! Local subway line 3 can take you from the GZ East Train Station to Airport South in around 35min.
2. According to the regulation, your luggage should be within 30kg and the total length of three dimensions (length+width+height) should be within 160cm. If it exceeds the limitation, your luggage will be forbidden to be taken onboard. However, if you are allowed to take it in, it won't be that cumbersome to handle!

Thank you so much for your response! May I ask, how long should I anticipate it to take between arrival into East Station on the MTR from HKG and boarding the Line 3? Is Chinese immigration done after the 924am arrival of the MTR? How far is the walk between MTR and Line 3? At this time in the morning, could it take considerable time to get my subway token due to longer queues? Thanks!

1. Generally, it takes 10-20min to pass the immigration upon arriving. Then you can walk out of the train station to catch the metro line 3 in several minutes.
2. Yes, the Chinese immigration will be in service then and you have to go through that to get into GZ city!
3. There is a special pass between the train station and metro line 3 and you can easily walk there in a few minutes according to the guiding signs.
4. The rush hours have passed then, so no need to queue up for long. Don't worry!
May help!
