4WD tour from Lhasa to Nepal border

Hello, I want to take the 4WD tour (7 days) from Lasa to Nepal. This would be the standard private tour for 2 persons... itinerary of arrival, 2 days in Lhasa, then 4 days on the friendship highway to Nepal border via EBC. I am getting quotes of $1500-$1700 per person. Why is this so expensive? Is there a better way to book this?
Thank you!

As the distance from Lasa to BC to the border is long and very few cars go for the trips, it is usually expensive to rent a private car. Also the private tour guide usually charge a little high for this itinerary! If u wanna pay less, I suggest you join a tour with other people upon arriving in Lasa. Then you can share a van or car and the fare!
