which grassland to travel in inner mongolia

hi, i'm planning to go to hohhot early next month and would like to visit one of the grasslands. one day trip is preferrable. can you suggest which grassland would be better for me to go to? and how do i go to the desert? is it far to gobi desert? or should i just go to the nearest desert. thanks a lot!

Xilamuren Grassland is the closest one, but I prefer to the Gegentala Grassland better. The second one can be reached by two hours from Hohhot, since one day is enough to traveling and back. For desert, you are go to the Kubuqi Desert and it is about 210km and the bus journey takes about 2.5 to 3 hours to reach there.
