Credit Card use in PRC

I have been told that American credit cards are not accepted except at hotels in China. How does one ensure payment for cabs, resturants, ect?

Jim, you should pay the cab drivers and restaurants in cash. Your credit cards will be accepted at these big shopping malls and restaurants too if it is Visa, Mastercard and other ordinary ones.
