About:China Tourist Visa

What defines work?

Can I go to china on an L visa for three months and periodically manage my business back in the United States? I would be 'working' but not for a Chinese company within the Chinese economy.

It is fine, but I am afraid you will not get an L for a stay of 3 months. Generally, you can get 30 day L and extend it once time when you are in China. If you need to stay for 3 months, I think you can try to apply for a double entry one instead.
