shigatse to sakya monastery

Question

HI guys,Is it possible if I go from Lhasa to Shigatese, then visiting Sakya monastery then back to Lhasa in one day. I means I get up early, leave Lhasa then back to Lhasa at ~ 7h PM. Thank you.

It is around 300km between the two places, so time shall be a little tight for a round trip by public bus if you wanna have a good visit (the single journey takes around 4h). If you rent a car to travel, the plan is totally feasible!

We rented a car in 2010 from Lhasa to Shigatse for a two days' trip and it cost CNY2,500, so yo may need to pay CNY1,200 or around for a day trip!  Maybe the cost changes a little by now. Also I heard hiring a car from Shigastse to Sakya  monastery costs CNY600-700.
