About:China Visa Entries / Validity / Duration of Stay

I need information as to what kind of visa I would need and when should I apply as I dont travel until March of next year.

Hi I am going on a cruise next year from Singapore to Shanghai my cruise itinerary is
March 7th 2015 Singapore 5:00 p.m.
March 8th 2015 At Sea
March 9th 2015 Phu My (Ho Chi Minh City), Vietnam 7:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m.
March 10 2015 At Sea --- ---
March 11 2015 Hong Kong 10:00 p.m. --- arrive
March 12 2015 Hong Kong depart --- 4:00 p.m.
March 13 2015 Xiamen, China 10:00 a.m. 6:00 p.m.
March 14 2015 At Sea
March 15 2015 Shanghai, China 6:00 a.m.
I understand that I do not need a visa for Singapore or Hong Kong and Royal Caribbean provides a visa service onboard for the Vietnam visit. I will need to apply one for Shanghai and Xiamen. I also plan to visit the Great Wall of China which i will have to travel to Beijing then back to Shanghai before returning home. I have never been to China nor have I had a visa before. As I enter and exit China several times is a multiple entry type appropriate? Please email me your thoughts.

I think a double entry L is ok because it's too difficult to apply for the multiple type if you haven't been to PRC. You are suggested to apply for it around one month in advance (not earlier than three months) before you start your journey, according to the Chinese embassy.
