Changing from L to X visa for university student with children

I have entered China on an L with my two children. I have applied and been accepted on a university course in Suzhou. The administration have told me that they can arrange for my L to be changed to a student X. However, in order for my children to have their visas extended I need to have their birth certificates authenticated. The university admin have told me that I will need to return to the UK to do this. Is this necessary? Can you help?

Hi, you have to apply for authentication of their birth certificate at Chinese embassy/consulate. However, you may entrust someone else to submit applications on your behalf for this.

Thank you. The problem is that I am in China, with the boys and I have the birth certificates with me. How do I get authenticated at a Chinese Embassy/Consulate?

Maybe you can try to send the documents to your family and entrust others to do this on your behalf. Anyway, this is my suggestion only. You can also try to contact the embassy direclty for details.
