Do i need invitation letter

If i am staying with a friend for a few days in Guangzhou and then we are travelling to Shanghai together and staying in a hotel? Do i just need my flight tickets and details of hotel booking, or do i need an invitation letter as well even though i am only staying at her place for 3 nights?

Actually you can apply for the L type with the invitation letter from your friend. If your friend is willing to send you this invitation letter, you needn't provide the hotel booking and return air ticket.

Hi. I would rather not go through the invitation letter route if i did not have to as i do not want to hassle my friend. My question was really is it possible to get away with no invitation letter if i am just staying with her for a few nights, or do i need to account for accommodation for whole visit.

I see, then you just need to provide hotel reservation and round-way ticket to apply for the L. They do not require bookings for the whole stay.
