Hi, EcareKen.
I am confused about your question. Do you want to travel from HK to Haikou or GZ to Haikou?
As far as I know, matter which dock do you start, you cannot find the ferry to Haikou.
Trains exist between Guangzhou and Haikou, but all these trains take about 11 to 12 hours.
So in my opinion, you had better to take a flight to get to.

Thanks but we were hoping to leave our Sai Kung home in Hong Kong and go to HK China City ferry terminal in TST, catch a ferry to Nansha then catch the ferry there to Haikou. Cycling around Hainan, then train to Zhaoqing cycling around for a few days on to Gaoming with ferry back tp HK. We do not want to fly on this trip.

From Nansha Port, there is no ferry to Haikou, so you need to take the train.
The Nansha Port is far away from the city downtown area, so you need to transfer severl times before reaching the railway station.
From the port, you need to take the free shuttle bus Jiaomen Subway Station, where you can take the subway line 4 to Chepi South Subway Station and then change to line 5 to reach the GZ Railway Station.
From the GZ Railway station, there are five trains.
