Transit visa for stand by ticket holder with Indian passport

Hello, I am Indian citizen and have 10 years multiple entry US tourist type. This time I am going to travel to US on stand by ticket. My transit will be in Shanghai, but I am not sure if I am allowed to land in Shanghai with a stand by ticket for my next flight from Shanghai which would get confirmed at the airport itself at the time of boarding.

If not what I need to do? Also can I follow same process at my return journey from US to India as well? Any advise will be appreciated. Thanks for your support

I am afraid that you won't be allowed to transit in Shanghai if you just hold a stand-by air ticket. As far as I know, the confirmed air tickets are required in your situation.
