Since your country is not listed, so you may not enjoy the 72-hour visa free policy.
In my opinion, you can call the Baiyun Station of Exit and Entry Frontier Inspection at 86-20-36066950 or Guangzhou General Station of Exit and Entry Frontier Inspection, 86- 20-32090088.

I think you misunderstood this, visa is not required if your stopover is less than 24 hours. You just need to apply for a stay permit after arrival at the airport providing your passport and flight ticket. So, it is not the same as the 72 hour visa free transit. Anyway, it is ok for you to take advantage of free transit in Guangzhou.
