to move out in shanghai for 20 hours during transit do we need visa?

I am indian, My family is visiting me in japan in april, we will move back to india via shanghai. There will be 22 hours transit in shanghai? we will have next flight tickets with us. Actually we can not spend 22 hours on airport obviously so we have to go out, But while having ticket of next flight from shanghai airport.
