Bring money into China for a holiday

Hi,

I am going on holiday to Shanghai with my brother and sister--in-law next week and would like to take with me a large amount of cash for shopping and extras (about €30'000). It says a maximum of $5000 can be brought in, but if I were to bring in this amount, would I have to declare it; and if so, how much would I be taxed? would i face any difficulties?

Kind regards,

Max

As I know, if you take a little more than the limit, it will be fine to just declare that and you will be allowed in. However, you will take much more. It may be confiscated. To avoid that, you'd better deposit that in a bank card.
